 | | MOTE held the second European meeting in the beautiful capital city of Hungary between the 24th/28th October 2009. During their stay, co-ordinators, volunteers and participants enjoyed the sights of Budapest and some exceptional mild weather.
|
Perhaps the most important visit was that to the Hungarian Parliament,
where the MOTE group met with Zoltán Balog, the head of the Committee
on Human Rights, Minorities and Religious matters and another four
representatives. The main points raised in this important meeting was
the lack of political participation by people with learning
disabilities in most countries but especially in Hungary because of the
legal structures. Other points raised were the aims and activities of MOTE and that of the Hungarian Down Foundation.
Another important meeting was held with Mr. Máté Szabó, the civic right ombudsman, who met the group personally. Mr. Szabó has shown great interest in the political rights of persons with intellectual disability.
During their meeting in Budapest, the MOTE group discussed what they would like to see in the next campaign, and pre-tested two new modules of the educational programme.
